Rachel Slater is a Portland, Oregon based dancer and choreographer. She trained at the Alvin Ailey School, Anouk van Dijk's Intensive, the Northwest Dance Project, the American Dance Festival and Jefferson Dancers. She studied at the University of Utah for one year before earning her BFA in Modern Dance Performance and Choreography from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. As a founding member of Pink Hair Affair, Rachel choreographed and danced in PHA's Speaking of SomeBody, MindFall, in memory of the deathtrap, oOOoOoOo and Take It Off. She also co-directed A Sympathetic Listener, as a part of San Francisco's Women on the Way Festival. Pink Hair Affair was an amazingly fertile and rich environment to grow and experiment. Rachel has also performed with Group Motion Multimedia Dance Company and Pink Hair Affair in Philadelphia, along with independent choreographers including Tracey Durbin, John Luna, Molly Root and Tiffany Mills, among others. She has been presented at the Drake Theater, the Philly Fringe (2007, 2008), the Meetinghouse Theater, the Women on the Way Festival in San Francisco, the Washington Park Amphitheater and most recently at 12 Minutes Max by On the Boards in Seattle. She is currently dancing, choreographing, teaching and producing in the Portland area, and can't wait to visit her PHA ladies in September! |
